The Physiology of Sexual Arousal
The normal physiology of achieving and maintaining an erection involves a complex interaction of physiological processes. The relaxation of the smooth muscles lining the penile arteries allows these arteries of the corpus cavernosum to become engorged with blood, compressing the veins that drain blood from the penis and, as a result, trapping blood within the corpus cavernosum to produce an erection.
